![]() Precalculus prepares students for calculus somewhat differently from the way that pre-algebra prepares students for algebra. In the United States, a " precalculus" course is a specific kind of math course that covers trigonometry, algebra, and other topics that are involved in calculus problems (and other areas of more advanced math). I know it’s too late to change this obviously but I feel like it’s a lot easier to just take dual enrollment Precalculus since it’s less work and usually with introductory math credits like college algebra and Precalculus they transfer to any college in your country. Please try to keep discussions on-topic about AP courses. Algebra 2 prepares you enough for introductory calculus, scoring high enough on any math placement exam will make it where you won’t have to take College Algebra or Precalculus,Taking and passing the AP calculus AB test makes it where you won’t even have to take a math placement test and you can just move forward to Calculus 2 or 3. ![]() ![]() The only reason I see people taking AP Precalculus is to boost their GPA because as far as college credit goes there’s honestly no point in my opinion. Obviously if you take AP Precalculus and get a 4 or 5 on that exam you won’t have to take it in college but isn’t it more worth it to just take AP Calculus AB and get a 4 or 5 on that exam so then you won’t even have to take a placement exam for math in college and you can just proceed to Calculus 2 or 3 your freshman year.Īlso if you score high enough on your SAT math section you won’t have to take Precalculus in college anyways you’ll just take Calculus 1 instead and 2 after that. In Most colleges you have the option to take College Algebra,Precalculus,Statistics or Calculus 1 for your freshman year based on your placement score or SAT/ACT score. I honestly curious I understand AP courses are supposed to be introductory college classes but in my opinion I don’t see a reason for an AP Precalculus. ![]() Please try to keep discussions on-topic about AP courses.
